Investing.com -- TotalEnergies (EPA:TTEF), QatarEnergy and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) signed an agreement on Tuesday with the Syrian Petroleum Company to explore offshore Block 3 near Latakia, Syria.

The memorandum of understanding covers a technical review and establishes a framework for technical and commercial discussions related to exploration activities in the area, TotalEnergies said in a statement.

TotalEnergies suspended its Syrian operations in 2011 following EU sanctions related to former President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

On Monday, the Syrian Petroleum Company said it identified an offshore site for its first deep-water oil and gas exploration project with Chevron (NYSE:CVX) and Qatar’s UCC holding.
